Dakota Sport Retrievers
The "Small Shipping" is for shipping puppies that are less then 12 weeks old.
Our Dakota Sport Retrievers are bred to look very much like tiny Golden Retrievers, with a very similar, family oriented type temperament, but much smaller, much lower shedding, and very smart & easy to train! I concentrate on breeding the smaller side Dakota Sport Retrievers! (Mini Dakota Sport Retrievers)
SIZE: Our Dakota Sport Retrievers will mostly mature around 14 inches and about 25 pounds, on average. Though, they may range from 15 to 35 pounds, and 13 to 15 inches. Smaller puppies are usually evident at birth! (Sized similar to the average size of a typical Cocker Spaniel.)
COLOR: Our Dakota Sport Retriever puppies come in the typical cream, gold, and red colors. Though, some will be solid and some will be parti colored. (Spotted). Other colors may also be possible.
Future Plans: Our first litters, in 2009, are 25% Golden Retriever, 25% American Cocker Spaniel, 37.5% English Cocker Spaniel, and 12.5% Poodle. Beginning in 2010, our Dakota Sport Retriever should be "perfected" as we have planned, being 37.5% Golden Retriever! Creating a very small, Golden Retriever type dog, that will be low shedding, gentle, loving, great with kids, very easy to train, sweet, cute, healthy, fun, and beautiful Mini Golden type looking dogs!
USES: Our Dakota Sport Retrievers are mostly being bred to be small, perfect, family dogs! Though, they can also be used as great hunting dogs that can also be wonderful housedog's! They love to retrieve/play fetch and also love water! Very talented as small hunting dogs, housedog's, or a lot of fun for children. Yet, they are very gentle, loving, obedient, very easy to train, and low shedding. They also excel at agility and obedience.
Personality: Our Dakota Sport Retrievers love toys! They love to carry toys around, even after they cut their adult teeth. They also are quiet dogs that do not bark very often. Outgoing, and love all people! Though, they do bond strongly with their families, they are friendly with strangers as well! Not very good watch dogs. They prefer to be with their families, and do not "run".
Grooming: Dakota Sport Retrievers have a longer coat that does require regular brushing. Trimming is not required, but may be a preference by the owner, depending on your climate? Bath as necessary.
Exercise: Because of their smaller size, they can receive most of their exercise inside of a house or apartment, if played with on a regular basis. However, they do love to go on walks, hikes, or even out jogging or hunting! Active outdoors, but very calm & laid back indoors.
Health: Because of a variety of unrelated breeds used in breeding our Dakota Sport Retrievers, with very carefully selected dogs used in our breeding program, our Dakota Sport Retrievers have been bred with temperament and health first, color, looks, and trainability also are highly prioritized.
Reason: Golden Retrievers have long since been sought out as great family dogs and also bred for hunting. However, they have increasing severe health problems, are too large for most households, and are heavy shedders. We are retaining the best qualities of the Golden Retriever, in a much smaller size, lower shedding, and healthier dog! The breeds that we have selected in breeding our Dakota Sports have very carefully been selected in order to achieve the desired looks, temperament, health, and usability of a Miniature looking Golden Retriever, with all of the positive traits, and none of the negative traits.
History: Every parent of our first litters of Dakota Sport Retrievers were born at Dakota Winds. We know each grandparent personally of each parent. In some cases, even the great grandparents, or even the great, great grandparents. A few even farther down the pedigree, that we personally know, or knew! Our Dakota Sport Retrievers come from long lines of very healthy, special, well known, proven temperament, trainable, carefully chosen dogs! By personally knowing the pedigree of our Dakota Sport Retrievers so far back, we can easily predict the outcome of our future puppies! We have learned that even simple personality traits can be, and are inherited! Dakota Sport Retrivers have long since proven to be "perfect family dogs"! However, there is always a demand for even smaller. Which I do concentrate on smaller Dakota Sport Retrievers!
Price: Our Dakota Sport Retrievers are priced up to $1,200 each. Preborn Deposits accepted. First deposit, first pick, and so on. However, we do reserve the right to keep any puppies that we choose for our long-term plans. In particular with the first two planned litters.
Puppies all come with a registration application, pedigree, health records, and guarantee. Shipping and training are available at additional costs.

Trixie had litter by Tiger, on October 28th, 2010! This litter is 37.5% actual Golden Retriever. They will mature mostly from 14 to 16 inches tall. But very much look like small Golden Retrievers!
